Mike Huffman built this Steen Skybolt in 1976. After he and his partner had flown the airplane for several years, they became acquainted with entertainer John Denver, who was very interested in owning a Skybolt. Long story short, Denver wound up buying this aircraft and flying it for several more years. It was featured in Denver's network TV special The Higher We Fly and in the EAA video Wings on Dreams.

Later, John Denver sold the airplane to a friend of Huffman's in Tulsa, OK. After that, the airplane passed through several hands, having been damaged in a ground-loop accident. Finally, Dick Keil of Naples, FL acquired it and by July 2013 had restored it to flying condition, complete with new lower wings and a longer landing gear, but keeping the original John Denver designed paint job.

Unfortunately, Dick Keil died shortly thereafter, but a corporate pilot from Telluride, CO bought it. Click the photo below for a video of him flying it in the glorious Colorado Rockies around Telluride.
